Zoomosaic

See every image in a folder at once on your Mac

Quick Look shows one file and Finder's icon view a screenful. Zoomosaic lays out an entire folder — thousands of images, subfolders included — on one canvas you can zoom from the whole set down to a single pixel.

An overview changes how you review. You notice patterns, outliers and gaps that you would never see one file at a time. It is the digital version of spreading prints across a table, or a contact sheet that never runs out of room.

Zoomosaic is built for that scale: thumbnails load at the sharpness the screen needs, a mosaic layer takes over when you zoom far out, and a local cache makes the second visit to a folder almost instant.

How to do it

  1. Drop a folder onto Zoomosaic, choose File › Open, or pick one from the recent folders on the welcome screen.
  2. Press F or ⌘0 to fit everything in the window, then scroll to zoom around the pointer.
  3. Choose a layout: Grid for equal cells, Justified Rows to keep proportions, or Masonry for columns.
  4. Click a group title to fly to it, or drag the minimap to move around.
  5. Double-click an image to fill the window and press ⌘1 to see actual pixels.

Tips

  • Pick a background that suits the material: black, dark gray, middle gray, light gray or white.
  • Show or hide file names from the Layout menu.
  • Shift-drag to select a region; ⌘C copies the selected files.

Questions and answers

How is this different from Finder or Quick Look?

Finder shows icons a screen at a time and Quick Look one file at a time. Zoomosaic shows every image in the folder and its subfolders together, at any zoom level, and lets you re-sort, group and mark them.

Does it copy or import my images?

No. It reads the folder in place. Small thumbnails are cached in the app's own cache folder, which you can clear in Settings › Storage.

Can I open folders on external drives?

Yes, any folder you can open in Finder. Network shares work too, though the first scan is limited by the network's speed.
